Topcon Acquires 50.1 Percent in ifa systems AG
Topcon of Japan has acquired 50.1 percent of the shares of ifa systems AG, a global provider of information technology located in Germany.
The firms announced the move Jan. 25. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Topcon will integrate ifa’s health IT software into its eye care business unit. The takeover was supported by ifa officers and directors, according to a statement.
Topcon develops, markets, and provides consulting services for health IT solutions in the eye care field and sells electronic medical record systems connectable to various types of ophthalmic examination devices.
Topcon said it plans to introduce the first product from the merger with ifa called “IMAGEnet Connect” at the World Ophthalmology Congress 2016 in February in Guadalajara, Mexico. IMAGEnet Connect is all-in-one, vendor-neutral software that connects to all Topcon devices and various non-Topcon ophthalmic devices and any system used in clinics, including practice management software and hospital information software.
The system will be officially launched in spring 2016.
